PwC Survey: Sustainability Disclosure Benefits Financial Gains

Reported 7 months ago

The European Commission officially implemented the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in January 2023, affecting around 50,000 global companies, with the first batch of applicable enterprises required to declare by 2025. PwC conducted the first '2024 Global CSRD Survey' to gauge preparedness and challenges, finding that sustainability disclosure helps create financial benefits. The survey of 547 senior executives from 38 countries and regions revealed that nearly a third believe CSRD is beneficial for revenue growth (29%) or cost reduction (26%), with companies closer to the reporting deadline having higher financial performance expectations. Challenges include data completeness and quality, with companies confident in disclosing topics like labor (75%) and business practices (75%), but lacking confidence in less familiar areas like biodiversity (35%) and pollution (43%).
