During a trial, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed that the company anticipated saving $1.4 billion per year in Arm fees through its $1.4 billion acquisition of the startup Nuvia in 2021. Internal documents indicated this projection justified the purchase amid dissatisfaction with Arm's technology. Despite previously relying on Arm's designs, Qualcomm aimed to leverage Nuvia's technology to strengthen its position in the PC market. However, the acquisition led to ongoing legal disputes with Arm regarding licensing agreements.
