According to the Central News Agency, on June 18, 2024, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced a surge in COVID-19 complications last week, with 623 new cases reported, doubling from the previous week's 328 cases. Among the cases were infants under 1 year old. Additionally, 38 new death cases were reported last week, with 90% of the deaths occurring in individuals over 65 years old. The CDC emphasized the importance of vaccination to reduce severe outcomes and urged the public, especially high-risk groups, to get vaccinated.
