As Taiwan's attention on political reform grows, Wang Wan-yu, chairperson of the New Power Party, expressed concerns over the lack of transparency in the amendment process of the New Immigrant Basic Law, which affects millions of new immigrants. Despite the bill passing the initial review, there have been no public hearings held, leading to rushed party negotiations that may overlook the genuine needs of new immigrants. Wang urged lawmakers to halt hasty legislation, pause negotiations, and promptly organize public hearings to ensure broad input from the community and protect the rights and needs of new immigrants reflected in the law.
