The Executive Yuan's reconsideration of amendments to the 'Legislative Yuan Powers Exercise Act' and the 'Criminal Code of the Republic of China' was rejected by the Legislative Yuan on June 21st. In response, the Executive Yuan and the DPP caucus in the Legislative Yuan have indicated they will apply for constitutional interpretation. The Presidential Office will prudently evaluate such a request. The failure of the reconsideration has led to discussions about the safeguarding of democratic values and people's rights by the President, as well as the potential implications for parliamentary reform.
