The UK faced a significant decline in vehicle production, with reports from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) indicating a 15.8% drop in April 2025, resulting in the lowest output for that month since 1952, excluding 2020's pandemic lockdowns. Car production fell by 8.6%, while the commercial vehicle sector experienced a staggering 68.6% decline, largely due to a plant closure. Although exports to the EU and US decreased, there were increases in exports to China and Turkey. Industry leaders emphasize the urgent need for government action to enhance competitiveness and boost domestic demand.
