After a five year hiatus, Taiwan's top independent team, Red Candle Games, released a new game called 'The Nine Days' at the end of May. Departing from their usual horror narrative, the game adopts a 2D action-adventure gameplay style and combines ancient mythology, Taoism, and Cyberpunk to create a unique 'Tao-punk' world. The large-scale development, high difficulty, meticulously polished gameplay, story, art, and music of 'The Nine Days' mark a breakthrough for Red Candle, as it has achieved great success in the global market. The game has performed notably better overseas compared to 'Detention' and 'Devotion', with a significant shift in the player base towards Taiwan and North America, as revealed by producer Yang Shih-Wei. Steam sales distribution for 'The Nine Days' shows a deeper impact in the global market, with Taiwan accounting for 20% and North America nearly 30% of players, and an increased proportion of reviews from international players. The game debuted as the top-selling game in Taiwan for one week and ranked 30th globally in its first week on Steam. It reached a peak of 6,500 concurrent players and received nearly 95% positive reviews, with an average Metacritic score of 84. Red Candle's goal of entering the world-class team is gradually being realized through 'The Nine Days', emphasizing the importance of moving beyond their comfort zone.
