Did you know that hidden in the alleys of Wanhua, Taipei is a century-old small train that showcases Taiwan's northernmost sugar factory remnants? The unique red brick warehouses, arches, trapezoidal pillars, and large span structures, after years of preservation efforts, not only protected the sugar warehouse heritage but also acquired park land for free, revitalizing and regenerating this historic space to become a new cultural tourist attraction in Wanhua. The Taipei Sugar Factory, originating from the Japan-Taipei Sugar Co., was established in 1908 but closed in 1942 due to World War II. Despite operating for only 34 years, it had Taiwan's first modern cane shredder and was the earliest modern sugar factory closure in Taiwan. The Sugar Factory Cultural Park comprises four warehouses, a small train platform, and vehicles, offering visitors a glimpse into Taiwan's sugar-making history and serving as a must-visit free family-friendly attraction in Taipei.
