On June 22, 2024, the Sanzhong Police in New Taipei City received a report that a retired woman was scammed out of over 1 million NTD online. The police immediately cooperated with the victim to lure the scammer to a face-to-face meeting under the pretense of exchanging 1 million NTD. When the scammer appeared at the convenience store, they were promptly apprehended. The accomplice initially tried to flee and destroy evidence but was also captured, resulting in the successful arrest of both suspects. The retired woman reported joining an investment group online, downloading an app, and being coerced to deposit money, ultimately losing 1.13 million NTD. This joint effort by the police and the public led to the capture of the fraudsters.
