With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, zongzi is a traditional and delicious food that will grace many tables in the coming days. However, the caloric content of different zongzi varies greatly. Nutritionist Lin Yu-Wei recently shared on Facebook the caloric content of various zongzi, cautioning those with poor digestion, high blood lipids, weight loss goals, or kidney disease to be mindful of their consumption methods to enjoy these festive treats without increasing their body's burden. The calorically highest zongzi, the Chaozhou red bean zongzi, contains 660kcal for a 200g zongzi, while the lower-calorie options include Southern style zongzi at 423kcal for a 180g zongzi. Lin advises sharing meat zongzi with family members, opting for low-calorie varieties, and minimizing sauce and syrup consumption to prevent issues like obesity and water retention, providing tailored eating tips for different groups to enjoy zongzi healthily.
