Ro Wenjia, Wu Fengshan, and Zhan Zhihong Named to Take Over the Straits Exchange Foundation

Reported about 1 year ago

Reporters Huang Wanting, Hou Lian, Zhang Ruiting, Lin Minghan/Taipei report On July 7, 2024, at 6:28 pm, due to corruption allegations, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wencan, resigned. The potential successors named by various sectors include Ro Wenjia, the vice chairman and secretary-general of the Straits Exchange Foundation, who has a 'pro-Lai' background, veteran media personnel and former inspector Wu Fengshan, and former vice chairman and secretary-general of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zhan Zhihong. After Zheng Wencan stepped down, the possibility of 'Tainan Group' member Wu Fengshan being the new chairman increased, as Wu was originally favored by President Lai as the chairman before being convinced by former President Tsai Ing-wen to appoint Zheng. Wu Fengshan, a respected figure trusted by leaders, is seen as a suitable candidate, even though the role of the Straits Exchange Foundation is restricted under current cross-strait policies. Ro Wenjia, who assisted in election campaigns during Lai Qingde's candidacy and has a good relationship with Lai, might also be a potential candidate. Meanwhile, there are voices pushing for Zhan Zhihong to become chairman.
