Russia pledges increased military support to Burkina Faso during West Africa tour

Reported 4 months ago

During his tour of West Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov promised more military assistance to Burkina Faso in combating extremist groups, aiming to fill in the gap left by traditional Western partners who have reduced aid. Lavrov stated that Russian instructors have been and will continue to train Burkina Faso military and law enforcement, along with supplying military equipment to bolster defense capabilities and eliminate remaining terrorist groups. Burkina Faso, plagued by extremist violence and coups, faces a humanitarian crisis with millions in need of aid, exacerbated by the withdrawal of Western financial support in the Sahel region prompting African nations to seek alternative partnerships like Russia.
