Russian authorities have detained three individuals after a botulism outbreak left dozens of people hospitalized in four regions of the country. The outbreak has been linked to ready-to-eat salads from a delivery service. The detained individuals are being investigated on charges of producing and distributing products in violation of safety standards. Botulism is a rare illness caused by a toxin from Clostridium botulinum bacteria, leading to symptoms such as paralysis and breathing difficulties. Hospitals in several regions are treating individuals with suspected botulism.
