S&P 500 Approaches Rare Back-to-Back Annual Gains

Reported 9 days ago

The S&P 500 is nearing a rare accomplishment of rising over 20% in two consecutive calendar years, a feat not seen since the dot-com bubble in the late 1990s. As of the end of September 2024, the index achieved a year-to-date gain of over 20%, which coincided with its 41st record close of the year. While some analysts warn that high valuations may lead to lower future returns, others suggest that strong economic growth will support continued profit margins, allowing the index to keep climbing.
