The latest U.S. jobs report exceeded expectations with an addition of 254,000 jobs in September, surpassing the forecast of 150,000. Jefferies Senior U.S. Economist Thomas Simons attributes this increase primarily to seasonal adjustments, particularly the return of teachers in the fall. He also highlighted changes in hiring patterns since the pandemic, where fewer individuals are released during seasonal upticks than before. However, he cautioned that these figures are preliminary, as only 62% of companies participated in the employment survey, indicating potential revisions to the data.
