On July 2, 2024, at 2:25 am, the Samsung Electronics union in South Korea initiated a nationwide strike involving about 28,000 members, accounting for about 20% of the total Samsung Electronics workforce. The union demanded an additional day of paid annual leave for employees and compensation for union members who did not sign the 2024 wage negotiation contract. Unable to reach an agreement with management, the union decided to proceed with the general strike until their demands are met.
