On July 5th, the embankment of Dongting Lake in Huarong County, Hunan Province, China, breached, inundating a large area of land with floodwater. Satellite images revealed that the breach widened to about 220 meters, submerging an area of approximately 47.64 square kilometers. The satellite images captured the devastation caused by the breach, showing the floodwater covering a vast region of the landscape. The surrounding images also displayed the continuous expansion of the water area due to upstream floods before and after the breach, as well as the flooding of villages. Efforts to seal the breach are estimated to take about a week, and the situation has led to significant losses with local residents evacuated from submerged villages.
