Saving the 'Summer Green Jewel': New Market Rescues White Custard Apple Trees on the Brink of Disappearance

Reported 8 months ago

In an effort to preserve the white custard apple trees, known as the 'Summer Green Jewel,' in New Market, Taiwan, where rapid development has endangered their existence, the local government recently transplanted two trees and named them 'Xinrong' and 'Xinchuan.' With only 33 out of the originally documented 88 trees remaining, efforts are being made to save and relocate these iconic trees to ensure the continuation of their local agricultural heritage. The upcoming White Custard Apple Festival in New Market aims to celebrate and raise awareness about these unique trees.
