In China, there are nearly 20 million visually impaired people, but there are only 400 guide dogs available, creating a significant gap in numbers. Shanghai Jiao Tong University is developing and testing a 'machine guide dog' with six legs that can plan routes, navigate, and even recognize traffic signals, providing capabilities beyond traditional guide dogs. The research team believes that this machine guide dog has the potential for mass production to address the shortage of guide dogs. Other countries are also developing similar technologies, aiming to make them more accessible and affordable for visually impaired individuals.
