Salvador Villalva Flores, who had just been elected as the mayor, was shot dead on a bus in the small beach town of San Pedro las Playas, about two hours away from Kopala, Guerrero state, Mexico. This incident marks another in a series of political figures being assassinated following Mexico's recent elections, with at least 34 candidates killed around the election period. This unfortunate event is not isolated, as it follows the brutal murder of a female mayor in Cotija, Michoacán who was shot 19 times in broad daylight.
