Shortage of 'I-Drops Eye Drops' in Pharmacies Due to Withdrawal of Reimbursement for Similar Artificial Tears

Reported 7 months ago

The shortage of medications has reached Taiwan with 'I-Drops Eye Drops,' commonly used to relieve dry eyes, being in short supply since last year. The Food and Drug Administration had initially expected a large shipment by early April this year, but the demand still exceeds supply. The withdrawal of reimbursement for 'Tears Naturale Eye Drops' in November last year led to an increased demand for 'I-Drops Eye Drops' in medical institutions, causing a shortage in pharmacies. The situation is expected to normalize by the end of the year. Alternative medications with similar ingredients and dosage forms are available as substitutes, with measures in place to ensure supply to pharmacies. The shortage of eye care products and the efforts to address the issue were discussed by Food and Drug Administration Director Wu Hsiu-mei.
