On June 27, 2024, reports of shortages of IV bags in medical settings prompted public outcry, with Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Ching-yi attributing the issue to a lack of specific volume specifications. Internal factionalism within the Ministry of Health and Welfare was also rumored. Nationalist Party legislator Chen Ching-hui pointed out in the Legislative Yuan that the core problem stemmed from insufficient prescription values under the national health insurance system, restricting drug production to only a few companies. Chen stressed the urgency of addressing the issue at its source, proposing improvements in the health insurance system and collaborating with more manufacturers to ensure an adequate supply of IV bags.
