SIPRI: China's Nuclear Warheads Reach 500 This Year, Possibly Deployed 24 for the First Time

Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which specializes in analyzing military capabilities, reported an increase in China's nuclear warheads to 500 by January this year, marking the fastest growth among nine nuclear-armed nations. The global total of nuclear warheads decreased by 391 compared to last year, with the US and Russia dismantling retired warheads while China, India, and North Korea increased their counts. SIPRI noted a potential deployment of 24 warheads by China, alongside the country's plan to enhance its nuclear capabilities by 2030. Concerns rise as more countries, including North Korea and India, reevaluate and expand their nuclear arsensals.
