Smuggling 200 Billion Japanese Yen Worth of Drugs! Court Sentences to Life Imprisonment for 'Damaging Taiwan's Image'

Reported about 1 year ago

A man surnamed Xie was sentenced to life in prison for masterminding the smuggling of 339 kilograms of methamphetamine to Nagoya, Japan, with an estimated value of over 200 billion Japanese yen. Xie and his accomplices hid the drugs in car aluminum wheel rims and successfully smuggled them to Japan in 2018. Following the arrest and sentencing of his accomplices, Xie was apprehended in Taiwan and convicted of transporting second-class drugs, with the court citing damage to the country's image. Xie denied involvement, but the court found testimonies from four accomplices consistent and incriminating, leading to his severe sentence.
