Consumer price inflation in India is expected to have risen in June for the first time in five months due to soaring vegetable prices caused by extreme weather conditions. Staple vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes saw double-digit price increases, while overall food inflation remained high. Core inflation, excluding volatile items, is forecasted to have remained at all-time lows. Despite strong economic growth, weak domestic demand and the impact of a recent telecommunications tariff hike may keep inflation above the Reserve Bank of India's target.
