As of now, there are over 1,800 electric buses in Taiwan. The Transportation Research Institute (TRI) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has developed an intelligent charging management system for electric buses using AI and IoT technology, adopted by Capital and Zhongxing bus companies in Taipei and expanding to stations in Taichung and New Taipei City. The system has proven to extend battery life by around 20% and reduce station labor costs by 30-50%, with a decrease in contract capacity of 30-50%. TRI has introduced four strategies to assist bus operators in optimizing energy management, smart charging, and operational practices, addressing the increasing challenge of managing large electric bus fleets' charging demands effectively.
