South Korea: North Korea Launches Short-Range Ballistic Missiles Twice in One Day

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 1, 2024, North Korea conducted a missile test, launching two missiles towards the east coast with the second one appearing to have failed and likely crashed inland near Pyongyang. South Korea's military assessed that these launches might be a showcasing of weapons for potential buyers, including Russia. The South Korean government strongly condemned North Korea's actions as a serious threat to peace and stability in the Korean peninsula, sharing information with Japan and the US. This recent missile test by North Korea follows previous threats and criticisms towards joint military exercises involving South Korea, Japan, and the US. It is believed that North Korea's missile launches serve as a demonstration of their weaponry to potential buyers, with the first missile identified as a KN-23 missile, potentially similar to the one reportedly used by Russia in Ukraine. Additionally, a previous high-speed missile test by North Korea last month was unsuccessful. The first launch was around 600 km, while the second traveled around 120 km before crashing. No casualties or damages were reported as of now.
