South Korea recently reinstated loudspeakers to broadcast messages towards North Korea after North Korea repeatedly sent garbage balloons to the South, leading to the suspension of the 2018 military agreement. However, it was found that the loudspeakers purchased by South Korea in 2016 did not meet the required standards, being unable to effectively transmit messages beyond 7 kilometers and often becoming unclear at 5 kilometers. This has raised concerns about the loudspeakers' effectiveness in reaching the North Korean city of Kaesong. The overall goal of these loudspeakers was to broadcast K-pop music and political propaganda towards North Korea, but their performance fell short according to tests. Despite the issues, the broadcasting efforts aim to influence North Korean residents, with defectors citing the impact of previous broadcasts in their decision to defect to South Korea.
