South Korea has recently received the first batch of new P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to replace the existing P-3C Orion anti-submarine patrol planes, further enhancing the country's anti-submarine and maritime patrol capabilities. The deal, approved by the U.S. in September 2018, included 6 P-8A aircraft and various systems and equipment, with a total cost of around $2.1 billion. After receiving all 6 P-8A patrol aircraft, the South Korean Navy will conduct a one-year testing and evaluation operation, aiming to officially establish them by mid-2025 to improve their anti-submarine warfare and maritime surveillance capabilities against North Korea.
