Standing Watermelons at Duanwu Festival in Jiadong After 4-Year Hiatus, 800 Melons Erected on Street for Spectacular Display

At the revival of the watermelon standing event in Jiadong Township, Pingtung County after a 4-year hiatus, 800 watermelons were successfully set up despite some morning rain, attracting enthusiastic participation. Other fruits like pineapples, mangoes, lemons were also seen standing alongside eggs, with successful participants being able to take their watermelons home directly. The event aims to promote Jiadong watermelons, with 80% of Taiwan’s melon sprouts originating from Jiadong, showcasing the local produce to the public. Pingtung County government officials also participated in the event held at Pingtung Academy, continuing the Duanwu tradition of standing fruits and eggs for good luck.
