Reported 8 months ago

At the opening of the Xiamen Straits Forum on June 15, Kuomintang Vice Chairman Eric Chu emphasized in his speech that authentic Taiwanese can also be dignified Chinese without conflict. Chu stated that most Taiwanese feel helpless about the current cross-strait situation and hope for peaceful coexistence, urging for reduced hostile language from the other side. The forum saw participants from Taiwan including Chu, New Party Chairman Wu Cheng-Dian, and Wang Yu-Cheng from the Taiwan People's Party, alongside mainland officials such as the Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office Song Tao, Fujian Governor Zhao Long, and the President of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits Zhang Zhijun. Chu highlighted the importance of principled persistence in Taiwan's political landscape and emphasized the KMT's role in promoting peace and mutually beneficial relations based on the '1992 Consensus' and opposition to Taiwan independence, aiming for stability and prosperity for both sides.
