Peter Berezin, chief global strategist at BCA Research, forecasts a 30% decline in the S&P 500 and a painful recession for the U.S. economy. He expects the recession to start later in 2024 or early in 2025, citing a slowdown in the labor market and consumer spending, as well as signs of weakening global growth. Berezin suggests reducing equity holdings and increasing allocations to bonds and cash, also recommending tactical trades like shorting bitcoin and betting on lower bond yields dragging the U.S. dollar down against the Japanese yen.
