Amid the scorching summer heat, Su'ao Cold Springs in Yilan has become a popular cooling destination. However, residents recently discovered that the foot soaking pools in the park were not only turbid, but also had oil scum and floating insects, deeming it disgusting and questioning the lack of maintenance. Although the school managing the area explains the phenomenon is due to high iron content in the springs causing oxidation, residents are concerned about the cleanliness affecting the willingness of people to soak their feet. Other paid sulfuric springs pools are notably cleaner, highlighting the disparity.
