On June 26, the US and Philippine national security advisers met to discuss China's dangerous actions in the South China Sea. The US reiterated its security commitment to the Philippines with National Security Adviser Sullivan reaffirming the US commitment to the US-Philippine Mutual Defense Treaty as 'steadfast as iron'. Both sides also emphasized their enduring friendship, commitment to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, and pledged to continue cooperating to support a free and open Indo-Pacific region amidst escalating tensions in the region due to recent clashes between Philippine and Chinese vessels near the Second Thomas Shoal.
