During the early morning of July 8, 2024, Lin Shijie, father of Tainan City councillor Lin Yiting, was ambushed and shot at close range while preparing to go hiking. The suspect fled after shooting Lin, allegedly driving the car to a parking lot, setting it on fire to erase evidence. Authorities suspect a gang involvement in the shooting case, with investigations ongoing to ascertain the motive and whereabouts of the suspect. The police have formed a special task force to track down the perpetrator, stressing zero tolerance for gang activities in Tainan City.
