In Kinmen, on July 6, 2024, the Coast Guard caught a small boat 'Shunfeng 99' with five individuals onboard carrying a large quantity of goods including tea leaves, alcohol, branded shoes, and electronics. The Coast Guard suspected the boat was attempting to smuggle the goods to mainland China but had to return after the buyers failed to show up, and surprisingly, one of the five individuals turned out to be a military officer. The boat and its crew were apprehended, with one being a Kinmen Defense Command staff suspected of carrying undeclared items. The Kinmen Defense Command emphasized cooperation with the ongoing investigation and strict punishment if any personnel are found guilty of wrongdoing.
