Syria to Remove Two Zeros from Currency in Bid for Stability

Reported 2 days ago

Syria plans to issue new banknotes dropping two zeros from its currency to restore public confidence in the heavily devalued pound, which has lost over 99% of its value since the war began in 2011. This move comes as part of an effort to ease daily transactions and improve monetary stability amid ongoing economic hardships. The central bank has reportedly coordinated with a Russian firm to produce the new notes, set to launch on December 8, coinciding with the anniversary of President Bashar al-Assad's ousting.
