Taipei City Government Spent 106 Million NTD in 6 Years on High-priced Sports Equipment Personnel Costs

Reported 11 months ago

Taipei City Councilor Chen Chung-wen, a former assistant professor at Taipei City Sports Training Institute, is under investigation for allegedly pressuring city officials even during his detention. He is accused of favoring Taipei Municipal University in various project bids including the 'Taipei Sports Training and Science Center Project,' which spent about 17 million NTD annually, with suspicions of specific favoritism. The Sports Bureau held public tenders for the project's procurement services in recent years, amounting to about 1.06 billion NTD spending overall, with equipment maintenance costs covered by the city government on top of personnel costs, raising concerns of potential wastage of taxpayers' money.
