Taipei City's Electric Vehicle Charging Fees Among the Highest in Taiwan, Councilor Calls for Implementation of Charging Rate Tiers

Reported about 1 year ago

During the Taipei City Council's second reading session, the city's Department of Transportation proposed amendments to the 'Taipei City Public Parking Lot Fee Autonomous Ordinance'. Councilors expressed concerns that the unclear electric vehicle charging fees could make Taipei the most expensive in Taiwan and lead to 'mosquito charging guns' if not addressed. They demanded the city government present a charging rate tier system. The amendments also lack proper differentiation between 'fast' and 'slow' charging rates and fail to address non-charging vehicles occupying charging spots, potentially causing parking chaos. The City Council should reconsider and gather public feedback before finalizing the amendments and reports to be submitted for further review.
