On July 6, 2024, Taipei City Mayor Zheng Wen-chan, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was suspected of accepting bribes during his tenure as Taoyuan mayor in relation to a zoning plan. The Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office charged him under the Anti-Corruption Act and he was required to post NT$5 million bail. After posting bail, Zheng left the court with a smile without saying a word. The court found some parts of the accusations unfounded, leading to further developments and reactions from various parties involved.
