Yahoo Kimo (Real-time News) - On June 17, 2024, at 1:43 am, the well-known homestay 'Poniduo Small Lodge' in Taitung, which had been certified multiple times as a 'friendly homestay' by the Tourism Bureau, was found to have hidden cameras for peeping. The operator, Mr. Chen, admitted to the wrongdoing, apologized in a post, and has closed for investigation. The county government's Tourism Department has initiated a special inspection, and if the peeping is confirmed, the harshest penalty of license revocation will be imposed. The incident was reported by a Taitung resident on the Facebook community 'Taipei News,' warning tourists to be cautious. After the exposure, 'Poniduo Small Lodge' operator Mr. Chen issued an apology, offered deep apologies to the victims and those affected, and stated willingness to accept appropriate punishment. The county government officials visited the lodge for inspection, but it was locked, and attempts to contact Mr. Chen were unsuccessful. The Tourism Department stressed that peeping on guests violates social order maintenance laws, and according to tourism development regulations, penalties ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$500,000 could be imposed, including suspension or revocation of business licenses. The department director, Bo Minzheng, affirmed that the government will strengthen supervision and law enforcement to prevent similar incidents, urging all lodging operators to fulfill privacy protection obligations, adhere to industry norms, and maintain public interest and social order stability.
