In 2016, the Taiwan Chemical plant in Changhua was forced to shut down after the government rejected the extension of its operating permit, leading to the unemployment of a thousand employees who subsequently sued for compensation. The first ruling ordered the Changhua County Government to pay Taiwan Chemical 470 million NT dollars, but in the second appeal today, the Taichung High Court reversed the decision and exempted the government from payment. Changhua County expressed gratitude for the court's support and stated intentions to improve communication with Taiwan Chemical for better cooperation.
