On the evening of July 2, the Penghu-registered fishing boat 'Grand Advance 88' entered approximately 11.2 nautical miles into Mainland China's territorial waters and was forcibly boarded and detained by Chinese coast guard vessels. The Taiwan Coast Guard promptly responded by sending a rescue vessel, even entering the 'internal waters' of China to rescue the crew. Despite facing a superior number of Chinese vessels, the Coast Guard urged the Mainland not to handle the situation based on political reasons and to release the fishing boat and crew ASAP. The incident highlighted the tensions between Taiwan and China in the maritime domain.
