Reported about 1 year ago

On June 14, 2024, Chinese coast guard and government vessels trespassed the waters near Kinmen, Taiwan, prompting Taiwan's coast guard to issue warnings. Taiwan responded to China's recent announcement of Coast Guard Directive No. 3, stating that China's coast guard can board, inspect, detain foreign vessels and crew suspected of violating their immigration rules in claimed waters starting June 15, 2024. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned China for not following international laws and conventions and pledged to ensure the safety of foreign vessels passing through Taiwan's waters. Taiwan's coast guard also criticized China for posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability, urging them not to unilaterally disrupt regional peace. The coast guard emphasized the violation of international law by China and vowed preparedness for any potential incidents. Other countries have shown concern as China's actions may affect maritime safety. Taiwan continues to monitor the situation closely and enforce maritime laws to safeguard national sovereignty.
