Taiwan: DPP Integrity Commission to Investigate Kuomintang's Ching Wen-Chan for Corruption, Possible 3-Year Suspension if Detained

Reported about 1 year ago

Former Mayor of Taoyuan and ex-chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation Ching Wen-Chan is suspected of being involved in a corruption case related to land development, potentially violating the Anti-Corruption Act. The DPP Integrity Commission decided to initiate an investigation under the Integrity Act. If Ching Wen-Chan is detained, he could face a 3-year suspension. The Commission stated that higher public office holders should be held to higher standards. Ching Wen-Chan's defense lawyer, who is also a member of the Commission, voluntarily recused himself to avoid conflict of interest. The Commission emphasized that they will proceed with the case regardless of Ching Wen-Chan's involvement. If evidence of wrongdoing is found during the judicial process, a 3-year suspension will be imposed, with the possibility of further disciplinary action if more serious offenses are revealed.
