Taiwan Faces Severe Shortage of Long-Term Care Workers

Reported 12 months ago

By July 2024, Taiwan is expected to enter a 'super-aged society' with one in every five individuals being elderly. With a rapidly aging population and declining birth rates, Taiwan is experiencing a shortage of manpower in various industries, including long-term care services. Experts urge the government to attract more talent into the long-term care sector, as there is a significant gap between the increasing demand for long-term care workers and the current workforce of 90,000. Suggestions to address the shortage include allowing middle-aged and elderly retirees to transition into this field and employing foreign workers with language skills to fill the gap.
