Taiwan Factories Facing Carbon Reduction Pressure, Taiwan Power Plans to Introduce Tiered Pricing for Electricity

Reported 11 months ago

On June 10, 2024, Taiwan's industry is concerned about stable power supply. In order to assist businesses in reducing carbon emissions, Minister of Economic Affairs Guo Zhihui proposed the concept of 'electric power differentiation' after taking office, where electricity will be categorized into three tiers - regular, low-carbon, and pure green, similar to different compartments on a high-speed rail. This system aims to help businesses meet sustainability challenges and transition towards renewable energy sources, potentially starting by next year pending environmental ministry's approval. The tiered pricing system is anticipated to reduce pressure on industries and align Taiwan with international standards, with industries that commit to RE100 target set to benefit significantly from the scheme.
