Taiwan Journalist Association Responds to Proposed Amendment of Broadcasting Laws by Blue and White Camp

Reported 8 months ago

The Kuomintang and People First Party in the Legislative Yuan continue to cooperate to promote the amendment of one of the three broadcasting laws, the 'Satellite Broadcasting and Television Law,' which includes allowing news channels to operate without license renewal, essentially ensuring indefinite licenses, and allowing TV stations previously taken off the air to continue operating until a judicial decision is finalized. In response, the Taiwan Journalist Association issued a 5-point statement and 3-point appeal, expressing concerns over the absurdity and contradictions in the proposed amendments and highlighting the potentially severe negative impacts of allowing license holders to operate indefinitely.
