Taiwan-made Submarine Hai Kun to Undergo Sea Trials in September? Military High-ranking Officials Deny: Respecting Each Party's Own Evaluation

Reported about 1 year ago

The first prototype of the Taiwanese-made submarine, Hai Kun, is currently undergoing port harbor acceptance testing at the CSBC shipyard in Zuoying. While there were reports suggesting sea trials could begin in September if successful, high-ranking military officials have denied this timeline, emphasizing respect for various evaluations and confirming the target for delivery by the end of November 2025 remains unchanged. Plans for subsequent submarines and estimated costs were also discussed, with the National Defense Institute estimating a reasonable per-ton construction cost lower than international prices. The project is proceeding cautiously to ensure the operational readiness and safety of the submarine.
