Taiwan's Taoyuan Mayor Chen Wen-chen was implicated in a scandal on his birthday on July 6, involving bribery of 5 million NT dollars and almost being detained. Chen learned about the leaked wiretap evidence through which he was implicated, promptly returned the money, claiming it was a loan. Despite pleading innocence and resigning as chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, the corruption scandal continues to unfold.
